We wrote a review summarizing old and recent knowledge on our favorite algal genus concentrating on applications and economic potential of Dictyota and its metabolites. We summarized taxonomy, anatomy, cytology, available genetic data, life history, chemical composition, nutritional value, ecological and economic importance.
