Available online: a critical synthesis of non-indigenous seaweeds across the Northeast Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Macaronesia. In this paper, we provide an in-depth analysis of 140 confirmed non-indigenous species, alongside cryptogenic and data-deficient species. Our dataset of over 19,000 distribution records revealed striking patterns of diversity and geographical variation, with the Eastern Mediterranean being particularly impacted by Red Sea and Indo-Pacific species. Read more to explore how current measures are insufficient to curb the spread of non-indigenous seaweeds.
